During the Rally of Scandinavia, one of the stages of the European ERC series, the debut of the new Pirelli Scorpion AT tires took place, which helped Mikko Heikkilä on the Skoda Fabia to win. The Finn was one of the leaders from the first special stages and eventually pulled away from the closest rival by 23 seconds.
On Saturday, there was a slight rain, and Heikkilä used both soft and super-soft tires (respectively AT6 and AT8), and on Sunday on dry gravel roads, the main choice was "soft", and at Pirelli, they noted that "it was an exciting race and an important test for our tires, which ended with a fairly positive result".
"The victory in the Rally of Scandinavia strengthens our leadership in the tire manufacturers' standings already after the second stage," said Terenzio Testoni, head of Pirelli's rally program. "The next rally will take place in Rome in just over a month, in early July, and there we will be able to evaluate the characteristics of our tires on asphalt".
The Rally of Scandinavia took place in the Swedish city of Karlstad, and at the beginning of the race, one of the leaders was the young Estonian driver Jasar Vaher from Toyota Gazoo Racing, who also uses Pirelli tires, but a small mistake threw him back. The same happened with Teemu Suninen, who on the Skoda Fabia, equipped with tires of the Italian brand, led until the 14th special stage.
